The Municipality of Thessaloniki in fulfillment of its role as a contemporary body of Art and Culture intends to contribute to the prominence and propagation of the cultural heritage of our land through the promotion of the available cultural evidence that it manages, organizes and preserves..

The objective of the current project is to contribute accordingly towards this direction with the promotion of the cultural material through the Internet.
In context of this goal the Municipality of Thessaloniki is realizing the current project entitled: “Collection, digitization & documentation of cultural material by the Aldermanship of Culture of the Municipality of Thessaloniki”, within Measure 2.4 of the “Society of Information” Operational plan.

Within the said project the Municipality of Thessaloniki:

• Concluded all the necessary actions for the digital transcription and documentation of 12.000 items of cultural evidence which land under its ownership. The characteristics of the items of cultural evidence are presented in Table 1.
• Concluded the translation of the documentation of the cultural content that is intended for digitization from the Hellenic to the English language.
• Concluded the integration of the documentation and all the digitized cultural material in both the Hellenic and English language to the present internet site, along with the integration of an indicative number of 500 items of cultural evidence and their documentation in the Hellenic language at the relevant internet site of Cultural Content that is developed and administrated by the District of Central Macedonia in the context of invitation 78 of Measure 2.4 of the “Society of Information” Operational plan.
• Retains high resolution digital copies of the digitized items of cultural evidence for reasons of security and in order to be utilized and developed by the personnel of the Services and the citizens.
